The 2021 Captains’ Charity day will take place on Saturday, June 19th.  We have chosen as our respective charities Barretstown and The Seal Sanctuary.

Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children living with a serious illness, and their families.

From Friday June 4th Barretstown can once again open their gates and welcome children living with serious illness, and their families, to experience the magic of camp! 🙌All throughout the Summer, they will be bringing some much-needed fun, laughs and smiles to families every weekend.

In Tara Glen, we love watching our children enjoy fun all summer long so let’s see if we can raise funds to help support Barretstown running their fabulous camps.

Their mission is to rebuild the lives of children affected by serious illness and is guided by the belief that every child with a serious illness should enjoy their childhood.  Barretstown is recognised as a centre of excellence in childhood cancer care and other serious illnesses. Children are referred based on their medical needs and all visitors to Barretstown are supported behind the scenes by 24 hour on-site medical and nursing care.  When Barretstown first opened they welcomed 124 campers in total. Barretstown now serves over 8,000 campers per year both on-site in Kildare and around Ireland through Outreach Programmes.  And, since it first opened its gates in 1994, over 45,000 “campers” have experienced the magic of Barretstown.  All the children and their families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food and medical assistance is provided at no cost to the family. Barretstown is supported by and relies on donations and the fundraising efforts of corporate supporters, individuals and community groups.

Seal Rescue Ireland (SRI)  is a charity organisation that works around the clock to rescue, rehabilitate and release native seals found sick, injured or orphaned from across the coast of Ireland. As the only seal rescue centre within the Republic of Ireland, we respond to reports nationwide and aim to rehabilitate the pups back to full health so that they can be returned to the wild.

SRI strives to promote ocean conservation and sustainability through proactive education, community engagement and research programmes, in order to protect our marine environment and all life within.

All Tara Glenners – both golfers and non-golfers – are very welcome to support these two very worthy causes by playing in the golf, giving prizes, purchasing raffle tickets or simply donating.

For the golfers – the time sheet will open online on Tuesday, June 8th @ 21:00.  The format on the day will be a four-person Stableford team event (any mix of Males/Females) – 2 scores to count on Par 4’s and Par 5’s, and 3 scores to count on the Par 3’s.  As semi-opens are allowed after June 7th, visitors/non-Tara Glen residents are welcome to play in the golf – in that instance members should book their visitors using the term “Guest” in Masterscoreboard system.  The name and phone number of the Guest(s) must be entered in the sheet provided in the Golf Shop on the day.  Tee-times will be from 9.00 to 10.30 and 13.00 to 15.00. The entry fee will be €30 per person/€120 per team, which is a reduction from €50 per person in previous years, as food will not be provided this year due to current restrictions.

If you cannot attend the golf, you can still make pledges/donations or sponsor a Tee or Green for €100. All pledges, donations, Tee/Green sponsorship etc. can be made through Pauline, to either of the Captains or any member of the Ladies’ or Men’s Committee.

There is a dedicated bank account set up for the Captains’ Charity Day.  We will be able to take payments on the day itself.  But, for ease of administration, all payments, should ideally be made, please, directly to the Captains’ Charity Day bank account:
